In a survey by JAM Recruitment, 58% of respondents who work in global mobility teams felt that their job had become more difficult
in the last 12 months.

When people lack job security, they often express it by saying that their job is too difficult. The survey reveals that global
mobility teams are small (0-15 members) and valued (65%) by their companies.
This suggests that something else is happening that explains these feelings.
With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility!
When you become
the focus of other people demands, it can be overwhelming and lead to burnout. There are two main reasons for the increased responsibility
in in-house global mobility teams:
- Expectations of Millennials
- Globalisation as a Business Driver
The next generation of workers want
to live abroad as part of their careers. They take years out to travel, they
make friends all over the world on Twitter and Facebook and they aspire to
creative, mobile jobs. Leaders from all parts of the
company see a global skill set as a way to compete, retain talent and grow
their bottom lines.
The International Human Resource Management (IHRM) and Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) fields are new. Many of the courses focus on applying
well-known business techniques to the new discipline. Although this creates a
professional appearance for middle managers and a way to discuss strategy with
senior managers, it isn’t the way to transform people who relocate others into
global mobility professionals.
The market is fragmented, but there are people out there who

Did #80Plates Do Gastropubs Justice?
"Around the World in 80 Plates" started last week and the first port of call was London. After watching the show we started to discuss what we would like to serve and where we would like to serve it.
We chose The Spread Eagle, in Greenwich, which has a small bar area in the front. And if you don't like the menu you can get the best fish and chips in Britain around the corner!

Where Should I Look?
When I first came to New York, I was researching into the local food scene and I read a couple of lines in Time Out about a local restaurant called Rosa Mexicano. The food is authentic and the signature pomegranate margarita shouldn't be missed. Since we left in 2005 it has become a household name in NY and has opened a chain of restaurants across the country.
Although it takes some research into the local area, it is fun to find a couple of bars and a range of restaurants that you can take business associates, coworkers, friends and family to.
There is also a lot of information online. Try the Foodies' Night In (#FNIchat) on Monday afternoon to connect with other people who like food, and sites like Chowhound and GrubWithUs to meet people who like food and organise dinners.
How Much Of An Adventure Can It Be?
There are always great food finds all over the world, from street food to the best local restaurants, to internationally-recognized restaurants. If you like to be more adventurous, then you can try to find local restaurants that have good reputations for food but aren't well known. In London, Viajante has a world-class chef, but it's in a less accessible area. Well worth the trek.
"Around the World in 80 Plates" should give the cook in you some inspiration. Why not try taking ideas from your travels and updating your favorite dish with a new flavor; part of the fun of being on an international assignment.

When people are presented with the choice of global vs. local strategies they choose to consolidate power. People want status and they build it in their communities.
HR Magazine reports on this trend to localize learning and development; national heads of L&D departments are asking local business leaders to recommend local service providers.
Why Do People Choose Local Over Global Ideas?
Lack of understanding of how to globalize and the difficult process of personal growth creates inertia. Most people don't want to fail and find that they prefer the status they earned in their home country to a new uncertain position in a host country.
Distance from the power source in your company results in reduced status and lack of opportunity. Many expats discover how proximity influences power when they move abroad; ending up as the outsider is isolating and builds resentment.
Tip: Before going on an international assignment ensure that your CEO has a global plan for your company and that your position in the global structure empowers you to develop a global skill set that leads to leadership opportunities.
